Big Bear Valley is known for supporting its own, and there’s no difference when it comes to three local athletes who are going for the gold. Kim Rhode, Brenda Martinez and Boris Berian are to be honored with a special community send-off ceremony Tuesday, July 26, 5 p.m. at Veterans Park before their departure for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games from Aug. 5-21.

The 4th Annual Kodiak 100 Ultra Marathon presented by CarboPro is situated in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California at an elevation of 7,000. The cozy, cool, alpine village of Big Bear Lake is ready to host you and your crew!This course is the MUCH anticipated complete loop around Big Bear Lake with the most epic views and climate you could ask for in an Ultra. Period. New for 2016 we will be running the opposite direction (clockwise) around the lake! With nearly 17,000′ of vertical climbing and sustained running over 7,000′ in elevation this course will challenge the best ultra runners on the planet. It’s doable as a first 100 miler, for a very few. This is not your typical So Cal Ultra. The Kodiak is a true mountain one hundred. Rocky. Technical. Steep Climbs to 10,000′ summits and cold nights. Gorgeous views. Thin air. Flowing single track. Epic canyon passages. Huge climbs. Welcome to the mountains! Our volunteers and staff will see to it that you have every opportunity to succeed. We pride our selves on the design of this route, the aid stations, and a COOL little town that will host you. Bring the significant other, kids, dogs, what ever….it will be classic late summer season in the Bear. Cool nights. Beautiful mountains. AND all your friends!
