A challenge like no other - From Winter to Fall 2013, we will take you on a wild and fun adventure that will both grow and challenge your mental strength and physical abilities. Participants will complete all four of this year's selected outdoor competitions in Big Bear. In 2013 we have Conquer the Bear, Conquer the Cub, Conquer the Grizzly (for the over 50 crowd), and a new Conquer the Teddy (for 12 and under) making Conquer the Bear a fun challenge for all levels and ages of competitors. All four categories will have a men’s and women’s category. Just choose your challenge, grab a friend and you’re in.

A NEW points system will be in place to better track competitors and add more flexibility for participants. Each event will provide points in each of the 4 categories for the top 30 finishers. 1st - 100, 2nd - 80, 3rd - 60, 4th - 50, 5th - 45, 6th - 40, 7th - 36, 8th - 32, 9th - 29, 10th - 26, 11th - 24, 12th - 22, 13th - 20, 14th - 18, 15th - 16, 16th - 15, 17th - 14, 18th - 13, 19th - 12, 20th - 11, 21st - 10, 22nd - 9, 23rd - 8, 24th - 7, 24th - 6, 25th - 5, 26th - 4, 27th - 3, 28th - 3, 29th - 2, 30th - 1. Points will be totalled after all Conquer events and the winners have the most points. You must score in at least 2 events to be included in the final standings.

Challenge #1 - a snowy intro - Feb 23

Snowshoe the Bear

The 6th annual Snowshoe the Bear 5k and 10k challenge. Demos, live music, pre/post race party. It's certain that the 2013 event will be one of the biggest snowshoe competitions in the U.S. Saturday February 23, in the Village of Big Bear Lake, competitors will embark on a snowy 5k or 10k course. Conquer the Bear and Conquer the Grizzly challengers must complete the 10k event and Conquer the Cub and Conquer the Teddy challengers must complete the 5k event.

Challenge #2 -the perfect storm – June 29, 2013

Big Bear PaddleFest

Your next challenge is the 6th annual Big Bear PaddleFest - a weekend long kayak, canoe and stand up paddleboard event with vendors, clinics and demos, live music and post race party that culminates on Sunday with a 5k, 10k or 20k (complete lap around Big Bear Lake) kayak and canoe competition. Conquer the Bear and Conquer the Grizzly challengers must complete the 20k course on a solo boat and Conquer the Cub and Conquer the Teddy Challengers must complete the 5k course on a solo boat. Competitors can use canoe, kayak or SUP. It all happens June 29th at Meadowpark on the shore of Big Bear Lake.

Challenge #3 -pedal the pavement – August 3, 2013

Tour de Big Bear

Your next challenge is the 3rd annual Tour de Big Bear - It just doesn't get any better than this. Competitors will ride the scenic roads surrounding beautiful Big Bear Lake. Conquer the Bear, Conquer the Cub, Conquer the Grizzly and Conquer the Teddy challengers wiill complete a designated road course. The Cub and 12 and under Course will be 24 miles and Bear and Grizzly will be 41 miles.

Challenge #4 - it's a wrap – Sep 6-7, 2013

Endure the Bear

And Finally, The B I G G I E - Endure the Bear - Endurance Trail Run on September 7. The end of your challenge will be to complete the Endure the Bear Trail Run which features a 5k, 15k, 30k and 50k run/walk, live music and post race party. Big Bear trail running offers the toughest challenge of the year. Combine high altitude, and big hills and you'll find a course that challenges every level of runner at every distance. Conquer the Bear challengers must complete the 30k course. Conquer the Cub and Conquer the Teddy challengers must complete the 5k run/walk. Conquer the Grizzly challengers will complete the 15k course. Challenge #4 will definitely thin out the field of Conquer the Bear challengers.

Challenge the Bear and you are in for great perks. Top Point Holders will receive VIP treatment at every event, discounts on lodging, and restaurants, start-line call-ups and more. Conquer the Bear, Grizzly. Cub or Teddy and you'll be famous. The male and female with the highest cumulative point total of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed.

Conquer the Cub must compete in one or more of the Conquer the Cub events (Snowshoe 5k, Road Bike (Short Race Course TBD), Paddle 5k and Trail Run 5k.) No tandem kayaks allowed in CTC. The male and female with the highest cumulative point total of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed.

Conquer the Grizzly must be 50 or over as of 12/31/13 and compete in one or more of the Conquer the Grizzly events (Snowshoe 10k, Road Bike (Long Race Course TBD), Paddle 20k and Trail Run 15k.) No tandem kayaks allowed in CTG. The male and female with the highest cumulative point total of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed.
